Motion Capture in Unreal Engine 5
Capture motion in Unreal Engine with Plask Live Link, or import an animation you've already created in Plask.
Capture with Live Link
1. Set up Plask Live Link
- Download the Plask Live Link plugin.
- Add it to your C++ project's Plugins folder and build the project.
- Enable Plask Live Link, Live Link, and Take Recorder, then restart the editor.
- Complete the one-time camera setup.
Camera capture currently uses a separate helper on macOS. Keep it running while you record in Unreal.
2. Connect your camera
- Follow Connect Unreal to select your camera and start the helper.
- Open Window → Virtual Production → Live Link and select Add Source → Plask Live.
- Enter the pairing code shown by the helper and use port 14046.
- Wait for the Plask subject to appear and receive motion.
3. Animate your character
- Connect the Plask subject to your character using Live Link Pose and your project's retarget setup.
- Keep your whole body in the camera frame, then move to check the result.
Plask provides a source rig. Connecting it to your own character requires a retarget setup.
4. Record and save
- Open Take Recorder and add the Plask subject.
- Leave Use Source Timecode off unless your project uses synchronized timecode.
- Start recording, perform your movement, then stop the recording.
- Save the take and open its sequence to review the animation.
- Stop the camera helper with Ctrl-C when you're done. Unused reserved credits are returned when the session closes.
Watch the workflow
This demo uses prerecorded dance footage and shows the Plask source rig in Unreal. Follow your project's retargeting workflow to animate your own character.
