Motion Capture in Blender
Capture motion in Blender with Plask Live, or import an animation you've already created in Plask.
Capture a live take
1. Set up Plask Live
- Download the Plask Live extension.
- In Blender, open Preferences → Get Extensions → Install from Disk and select the ZIP file. Enable Online Access.
- Complete the one-time setup, then open 3D View → Sidebar → Plask Live.
Camera capture is currently available on macOS 14 or later and requires an internet connection.
2. Select your camera
- Refresh the camera list and select your webcam or iPhone Continuity Camera.
- Allow camera access when prompted. Keep the camera fixed and your full body visible.
- Set a credit limit for the take and leave the other settings at their defaults.
3. Start recording
- Enable Record take, then click Start Live Take.
- Wait for Plask to connect. Your camera preview remains visible while you wait.
- Click Show Live Character to bring the rig into view, then move in front of the camera.
To animate your own character, retarget the Plask rig using your usual Blender workflow.
4. Save your take
- Click Stop & Finish Take and wait for the take to finish. Unused reserved credits are returned.
- Open Dope Sheet → Action Editor and select your new action.
- Scrub the timeline to review the motion, then save your
.blendfile.
Each take creates a separate action, so you can keep earlier takes.
Watch the workflow
This demo uses prerecorded dance footage. In Plask Live, select a camera to capture your own movement. The screen recording shows the workflow; playback may appear less smooth than the Blender viewport.
